by Robert Macleod
This book has almost everything except the kitchen sink. It contains huge colorful paintings and plenty of charts and diagrams designed for older children. Chapters focus on the Age of Vikings, Exploring the World, Viking Attack!, Life in Viking Times, and Legend and Lore.
The Scottish author, Robert Macleod, grew up on Scotland’s coastline listening tales of the Norsemen who raided those shores beginning in the ninth century. He has traced his last name back to Viking times. The story is based on Macleod’s grandfather’s diary about the possibility of Viking artifacts in the area. Imagine the author’s surprise when they did indeed find wood, rivets, tools, and parts of a man’s skeleton in that area.
