Books in
the Dakotah Treasurers Series by Lauraine Snelling Lauraine
Snelling, one of today's most prolific writers of historical fiction,
draws
upon her Norwegian-American heritage in many of her books. In
addition to historical fiction, Snelling writes stand-alone novels,
youth
fiction in which she shares her passion for horses and her interest in
the
Civil War, and nonfiction
works usually with a Christian theme. Lauraine Snelling is,
appropriately, a
member of the more than Two Million Books in Print Club. As she
does with her books about horses, Snelling's historical fiction novels
are
grouped into series. The historical fiction series (to date)
include: The
Dakota Plains Series, Daughters of Blessing series, and she is now
putting the
final touches on the third book in the Red River of the North
series,
The Return To Red River series, The Dakotah Treasures
series, The Home
to Blessing series. Snelling's
many fans mark their calendars with the expected date of the next
release, and
booksellers free up shelf space for the new works. That is what Rural
Route
Bookstore is doing with the books below, all from the Dakotah Treasures
series. If you missed one of the four in this series, this is
your chance
to get it at a discount. We overstocked on three of them, and offer
these at a
reduced price. We'll even throw in some Snelling bookmarks with each of
these
paperback books. Books in
the Dakotah Treasurers Series by Lauraine Snelling The debut novel in the
Dakotah Treasures series takes readers west to the untamed land of the
Dakota Territory. Ruby Torvald and her young sister, Opal, set out on a
daunting journey to see their long-lost father and to claim a
promised inheritance. However, rather than the legacy of gold they
expected, their father has left them a shocking bequest which shaped
their lives in this new, growing community.
Pearl Hossfuss, a
22-year-old teacher from Chicago who has "scars within and without,"
runs away to the town of Little Missouri, Dakotah Territory, to teach
and becomes a boarder in the house owned by Ruby Torvald. These two
young women, trying to establish themselves in this small rural
community, share common struggles and turmoil and become fast friends.
History and fiction are combined in
this
exciting account of the
catastrophic Cloquet Fire. Fourteen-year-old Lisa Hanson falls
asleep in
present day Cloquet and is mysteriously transported to Cloquet on the
day of
the fire. Everyone there thinks she is Liisa Maki, her grandma's
oldest
sister who disappeared that day and was never heard of again. By
the end
of her eye-opening journey into the past, Lisa solves the mystery of
her
missing great aunt. FN

in the 1980s by Irish writer and children's author Mullen, and
illustrated in black and white sketches by Jeanette Dunne, this young
adult story is billed as "a sea drama from Viking Times." Sigmund the Red, a young Viking
adventurer from southern Norway, leads his sea wolves southwards to
Ireland and Scotland. With a Viking invasion imminent, Diarmuid — a boy
monk living on Iona — is given the responsibility to protect the golden
book of the monastery. He must tackle the waters of a dangerous
whirlpool in order to accomplish his mission, and this is only part of
the excitement in this adventure novel about the Vikings in the Dark
Ages. Suggested reading age is 12 and up. CH - 44 Paperback
