Hardcover
Just as the designs in Norwegian Handknits (below) were inspired by items at Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, many of the designs in this book stemmed from the historic textiles at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. Along with knitting patterns from various regions in Sweden, the authors include bits of Swedish folklore and tradition.
Techniques and patterns range from basic and traditional knitting to two-color knitting to “clever” knitting with embellishments such as Dala horses and stained glass designs. The chapter on two-color knitting has patterns for a Piper’s Hat, Deer Mittens, a Hope Chest sweater, and Mansion Mittens.
Learn a new skill, or use your current knitting skills, and combine them with the Swedish heritage and culture. Enjoy the lovely photos.
